Remember, one thing you have to take into consideration is, we might have more than two trainings in a week(besides just Tuesday and Thursday) do ask yourself if you are willing to commit. Commitment to Drama is one of the main criteria we look out for in a Dramarian!

Sec One Orientation

To all 2013 Secondary One students,

Welcome to Gan Eng Seng School! If you are on this Drama page, allow me to assume that you are interested in joining GESS Drama Club! Do you love to act? Are you finding a platform to showcase your acting talent? Do you like to make/paint props? Are you looking for a CCA who will accept you into their big family? Do you want a CCA with bonded members?  If you're looking for this criterias in a CCA, Drama Club is definitely a suitable choice for you! Our Drama trainings are held every Tuesdays and Fridays! 3pm-6pm, 2.30pm-5.30pm respectively :)

Although acting is what we do mainly, Designing and making of props/moving of props(Crew Work) are essential work required in Drama! During special events such as our R.O.D(Retirement of Duty, an event for graduating seniors), we do dancing, singing, etc performances, for you to showcase your talents! Just like in our CCA Orientation, we had singing and guitar performance too.

We participate in the Singapore Youth Festival every two years without fail and competitions such as Human Values Drama Festival! However, during this competitive period, our trainings would end slightly later at about 7pm and there would even be extra trainings on Thursdays too. It is normal that people have opinions that Drama Club is a slack CCA, however, it is not. It is different from Primary School CCAs. GESS Drama stresses on discipline within the club too. Commitment is a value every Dramarian should possess. If you have a passion on Acting and Theatre, it would definitely not be a problem. We will train you step by step, teaching you the techniques of acting and eventually put you on stage to shine and do us proud!

Therefore, Sec 1s, no matter what CCA you decide to choose, make sure it is something you like, because it would be stuck with you for four years. We may not be the best CCA in the school, but we promise you an utmost fun and awesome journey in GESS Drama! Feel free to approach any Drama members to find out more about Drama!

There are many things that could be broken in GESS Drama Club, but our bonds and spirits will never be broken.

My journey in the club

Time flies and I’m already going to graduate this year. I would honestly say that my 4 years in the drama club was a really memorable experience for me and I hope it was for the rest of the graduating seniors as well.

I still remember when I first came in the club in 2009, it was the SYF year. As a sec 1, I participated as a crew member. Trainings were really tough as we kept practising and stayed till late hours (there was once we stayed in school till 9pm!) and I believe it was even tougher for the seniors. I remember myself complaining a lot because of the late trainings but I really admired the seniors for the amount of effort they put in training endlessly.

In sec 2, I was given more responsibilities as an exco member. Being an exco member is when I started to see how much the exco does for the club. Senior exco: I really admired u guys as I saw how much u guys were willing and had worked for the club to make the club an AWESOME club. Thank you seniors for watching over and also helping us juniors with whatever tasks we were given. I really enjoyed the times when we worked closely together<3

In sec 3(2011), it was a really hectic year, having 3 performances in a row, but it was very heartening to see how we pulled through it and grown as a club. Climbing out of the school during the syf period because we stayed to make props till too late and all the shutters were closed was really a new experience for me! Also, during the end-of-year performance, when there was quite a few of us who fell sick, I was really touched to everyone caring and supporting one another and made this production yet another success. It wasn’t easy, but we did it! :) I hope going through this much, everyone gained a thing or two at least.

Sec 3 was also the year I took over as the President of the club. I would like to be honest now and say that I really was unsure if I could really do this job well. I never thought that I would become the President. Thank you Joshua for always being there and guiding me even after u stepped down. I really really appreciate it. Being the President let me gained exposure, learning about leadership qualities, etc. This allowed me to develop even further. I hope that I have done well in my 1 year as your President. Thank you exco for working with me for the past year! <3

Coming to sec 4, it’s my last year in the clubL Although I didn’t really participate in anything, I was really glad to see the new batch of sec 1s performing with the sec 2s in the human values competition. After watching the video, I would say that it was good, considering it was the first time most of u guys are performing. Continue the hard work and strive for the better!

Today, we had our last training together and I really want to thank you guys for making it memorable for me. Though we just played Captain’s ball, it was really nice to see everyone participate actively and working well together. (I’m really happy to see everyone like bond together like during camps and games like this.)

Even after the game ended, a lot of u guys still stayed and we slacked together and that was really a nice time together. It was really touching to know that u guys will miss us :’) I will miss you guys and all the fun and craziness too! I will remember all the hugs and love from u guys <3 not forgetting my last DRAMA WHOOSH with u guys!

All in all, thank you everyone who made my life in the Drama Club such a memorable one.

Next year will be another SYF year-hope you guys will grow to be confident and committed members and continue our hardwork and traditions and do your best to achieve greatness together as one united club!

Drama!!
Hahah, Hey Guys :D
I would passing down scripts that regards to this Friday's training. If you do not get a script latest by tomorrow 1.30p.m. You have to send me a text to tell me so that I can pass you the script :)
Andddd~
Any of you guys want the Human Values competition video disc? I only have a few names with me. If you want them, tell me by friday before training so that I can compile it into a list :D
Also, There would be 2 plays available to watch in this coming May(After MYE i guess)
One of them is the play "Twelfth night'' held at fort canning park. Its held on the 17th May. The show starts at 7.30pm and we will be there at 630pm for fun and picnic. The price is $45 but there MIGHT be a special concession of $35. This might be the last event for get together for all(Sec 1-4) before the sec 4s leave for the O's ><
The second play is invited from my friend from Kranji Secondary School. It's on May 19'2012, Saturday. The time is to be confirmed and tickets are priced at $5
It's good to attend plays because we can get exposed to other schools/other productions and also learn from them(be it merits or demerits)

So please give me ur responses by Friday :D Thanks!
(DVD and Twelfth Night are more urgent)
